Sorry no Kona for me...

  • Jun. 23rd, 2008 at 4:44 PM

There was only 1 place for my age group and the 1st place winner accepted the place...damm did she not know I wanted it?????
Well guess I will have to train harder and do another one..oh wait I am already signed up for Arizona in Nov.
It was a really great race. Beautiful location light early morning and late into the evening so you have a daylight finish.
I am trying to do a race report that I will post once done....but  here are a few highlights. The group of Austinites that I came up here with all finished and had a great race. [info]crabbyoldjaws  and [info]leahruns  were great fun to be with and both had great days.  We originally decided to pass up the awards banquet but now that I am getting an award we all decided to go ...and more then likely will get pretty hammered tonight!! Although a few of us managed that a few nights before the race!  Just goes to show us what the Europeans have known for ages...wine is good for you, especially red!!
The worry about the cold water was over by Saturday, the temp continued to rise everyday we were here.
I cried just before the race started standing on the beach, not sure if it was nerves or just the OMG I am about to do and Ironman.  I did notice people backing away from me thinking OK this lady is so scared she is crying so she must not be a good swimmer so lets get away from her!!  It worked cuz except for the initial few mins of sheer terror at all the legs and arms I basically had a completely uneventful swim.  I originally was going to place myself on the outside and continue to swim in towards the buoy but after thinking about it I changed my mind and decided to hug the buoys...the shortest swim, but I was worried it would be pretty crowed.  So I ran into the water the minute the gun went off and just swam like crazy to get going and out of the crush of people.

I had tummy problems on the bike which continued on the first 10 miles of the run, but I just drank coke and chicken broth alternating at each aid station on the run and eventually felt better.  [info]teambaraka  was wonderful, she helped me when I saw her on the run and told her my stomach was not so good. She suggested I slow down and walk a bit to get my heart rate down so whatever was in my tummy would digest. It worked, then I got my running legs back and hauled ass once I realized I could get a finish with the number 13 next to my name. I have not seen my split but my friends family that were keeping track of all of us said I negative split the second half of the run.
Well gotta go and get in a cap nap...I'll post more later and hopefully a few pics...see ya all back in Austin...ugh I'm not looking forward to getting back to the heat...the weather up here is also a plus.

Easing into the home stretch

Had a 1 hr run today, it felt great, especially knowing it was only a 1 hr run!!!  Its amazing how many hours there are in a Sunday when you only take 1 hour to wo..hahahaha.  It like when the clocks change,  every time I look at the clock it somehow does not feel like the time that it is?!?
Tomorrow a BS swim and Tuesday I'm on my way to CdA.....

A beautiful ride

  • Jun. 14th, 2008 at 4:20 PM

Today I did my ride on a borrowed bike...now sometimes the word borrowed means the bike might be dust covered or not in the best shape but this bike is beautiful and it was such a wonderful ride...I fell in love. I hope when I get on my bike up in CDA I feel the same.

Lists all made for packing, piles of stuff eveyrwhere...yep I'm heading to CDA Ironman!!

Behind already......

  • Jun. 12th, 2008 at 8:40 PM

One week into having a LJ and I am already behind on my posts!!!  Good Grief!
Ok I'll try to remember what I did  this week, well it  has flown by and moved at a snails pace all at the same time. Is that possible?
Monday was my day off and I met my coach Jen for lunch to discuss everything I needed to know about CDA and completing my FIRST IRONMAN!!!  She is wonderful and made me feel confident and relaxed about the task ahead of me.
Tuesday I swam a BS with a few buds....[info]crabbyoldjaws  [info]leahruns and Carrie. The swim was nice and relaxing, not to crowded.
Then Tuesday night was my TXIron quality run wo.  It was very hot but you know I think I am getting used to the heat.  Good run short but sweet!
Wednesday 6am TXiron swim wo.  Is it possible to swim and sleep at the same time?
Today I swam with a friend at the YMCA, then delivered my bike to J&A's for TBT. Then a 30 min run and a 1 hr cycle.....
Tomorrow is a day off.....I will be making lists and packing most of the day.
Today my son Rob called to say hi and let me know all is well and he is having a great time with his Texas400 cycling trip.  He had a 120 mile ride today and a day off tomorrow.

Great ride !!! Yesterday was the Atlas Ride-70 miles.  The ride is to benefit Texas 4000 for cancer.   The Texas 4000 group is made up of UT students that are cycling from Austin to Alaska in 70 days. Yesterday was day 1.  It was a really great ride especially since my son Rob is one of the Texas 4000 riders!!!  I'm so excited for him and worried at the same time!!
OK why do all the photos I try to upload turn sideways?????
I missed a turn on the ride but it was ok becasue I was not alone, many of us missed the turn!! Then I managed to catch up with
[info]crabbyoldjaws
 and
[info]leahruns
and her hubby .   The rest of the ride was fun and not to hilly!  Then at the finish we all did our 45 min run, that was hilly!! Where did all those hills come from???  Then we got a chance to sit down and enjoy some BBQ, with

Sick doggy

  • Jun. 5th, 2008 at 7:28 AM

So I set my alarm for 5 am yesterday morning to go for a run with a friend......but  one of my dogs had other ideas. He must have eaten something that gave him diarrhea, so just about every 30 min to 1 hr during the night he was either going outside or barking to come back in. So at 4:50am I was once again up letting him out, it was so close to 5 am that I just went into the kitchen, made a cup of tea and started to think about my run.... I was feeling very heavy legged and tired, so I texted my friend and bailed on the run.
I eventually made it out for a run at 11am dreading the heat but actually with the wind blowing it was a good run, not to hot!!!
Then I did my swim at Deep Eddy @ 5pm, very crowded by still a good swim.

Airport drop off

  • Jun. 3rd, 2008 at 7:56 PM

This morning  I had the TXIRon Jen's group open water swim out at Mansfield Dam. We practiced swimming over people- without drowning them.  Then we did 2 loops of the cove.  I was supposed to be doing the TX Iron Tuesday run WO but I had to take Russ and Tom to the airport. They are off to hike up to base camp at Mt. Everest!!!
Well all I can say is lucky me to have to go the the airport so I could miss running in this heat!!  Instead I will run tomorrow morning.

better late.....

I kept meaning to start one of these months ago but you know never seem to have the time...to busy reading other blogs.
Now its 19 days away from my first Ironman and no time like the present to keep track of my training...doh. Actually I have been keeping track over on Google, sometimes hit or miss but a so-so log none the less. So anyway, I'm doing IMCDA June 22, 2008. I will from now on try to remember to keep this updated with my training and race report and stuff going on after CDA !!
